Privacy Policy

Last updated: November 2026

PolicyLector ("we," "us," or "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you visit policylector.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using our site, you agree to the practices described here.

What we collect

Information you provide

  • Email address — when you join our newsletter or waitlist, or run a report in the Dec Page Analyzer, we collect the email address you submit. For the analyzer it is used to count your free reports and is added to our mailing list, which we use for a reminder before your next renewal and occasional insurance tips. Every email includes an unsubscribe link.
  • Declarations page uploads — if you use our Dec Page Analyzer, the document you upload is processed to generate your personalized analysis. The document itself is not kept (see below).
  • Anonymized coverage numbers — when a report completes, we keep a small set of coverage figures from it for aggregate statistics: the state, policy type, coverage limits, deductibles, number of vehicles, and policy term. These are stored without your name, email, address, policy or VIN number, or any other identifier, and cannot be linked back to you or your document.
  • Contact messages — if you send us a message through our contact form, we receive your message and reply address.

Information collected automatically

  • Usage data — basic analytics such as pages viewed, referring URL, device type, and approximate location (derived from IP address). We use this to understand which content is helpful and improve the site.
  • Cookies — we use a small number of essential and analytics cookies. You can disable cookies in your browser settings; the site will still function.

How we use your information

  • To send you the emails you signed up for (newsletter, product launches, waitlist updates).
  • To generate your declarations page analysis and return it to you.
  • To respond to messages you send us.
  • To understand site usage and improve our content and tools.
  • To publish aggregate coverage statistics, such as the limits drivers in a given state typically carry, from the anonymized coverage numbers described above. We publish figures only for groups large enough that no individual policy can be identified.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

Declarations pages are not stored

This is important: when you upload a declarations page to our analyzer, the document is processed to generate your analysis and is not retained on our servers afterward. Names, addresses, policy numbers, and VINs are removed before the analysis step. We do not build profiles from your Dec pages, sell them, or share them with insurers, marketers, or any third party.

The only thing we keep from a report is the anonymized coverage numbers described above. They hold no identifying information, are never tied to your email address, and are used only in aggregate.

Third-party services

We use a limited set of third-party services to operate the site. These may include:

  • Netlify — site hosting and form delivery.
  • Buttondown — to store our mailing list and deliver our emails.
  • AI processing provider — for the Dec Page Analyzer, document text is processed by a large language model API. The provider's terms prohibit training on submitted content.
  • Privacy-respecting analytics — to count page views without building advertising profiles.

Each provider has its own privacy policy. We share only what is necessary for the service to function.

Your rights

You can:

  • Unsubscribe from any email at any time using the link at the bottom of every message.
  • Request that we delete any information we have about you through our contact form.
  • Ask what information we hold about you.

If you are in the EU, UK, or California, you may have additional rights under the GDPR, UK GDPR, or CCPA. We honor those rights regardless of where you live.

Children's privacy

PolicyLector is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be announced on the site or via email to subscribers.

Know what your insurance actually covers.

The fine print

PolicyLector publishes educational content about insurance. We are not licensed insurance agents or brokers, we do not sell policies, and nothing here is insurance advice. Always consult a licensed insurance professional for coverage recommendations specific to your situation. Your policy and your state's regulations govern your coverage.
